Dental implants are incredibly durable and make great tooth replacements. Dental implants are artificial tooth roots inserted into the jawbone and made of tiny titanium posts. As they recover, a process known as osseointegration causes them to unite with the surrounding bone. Dental implants are strengthened during this process, enabling them to support various dental prostheses. Dentures, bridges, and dental crowns can all be supported by dental implants. The number of missing teeth and the overall treatment objectives will determine the type of dental prosthetic used in conjunction with a dental implant.

Additionally, whole-mouth rehabilitations utilizing all-on-four implants are possible with dental implants. Implants need time to heal once they are placed. Dental implants are only so sturdy once they join with the surrounding bone. To ensure that your implants heal appropriately following surgery, you should avoid a few things.

What Are Dental Implants?

A dental implant is an advanced replacement tooth that resembles the entire tooth structure. If taken care of properly, it can last a lifetime and behave, feel, and appear like a natural tooth. A crown, bridge, or denture is supported by a properly inserted titanium “root” placed in the bone.

What Are The Different Types Of Implant Dentistry?

  • Endosteal Implants
  • Subperiosteal Implants
  • All-on-4 Dental implants
  • Implant Overdentures
  • Implant-supported Bridges

What Is The Procedure For Placing Dental Implants?

  • Consultation is the first step in the dental implant process. Our dentists will take a CT scan of your mouth. Based on the CT scan, your doctor will develop a customized treatment plan for you.
  • You will consult with your prosthodontist for a prosthodontic exam as soon as you decide that you are prepared to proceed with your dental implant treatment. Any remaining queries will be clarified at this consultation, and the doctor can gather all the information required for the treatment.
  • The dental implant process can offer you a new smile in just one day.  Your dentist will insert dental implants that look and feel like actual teeth. While your mouth heals and becomes accustomed to the change, you are given temporary crowns or bridges supported by the implants.
  • After your dental implant procedure, there is a recovery period. Patients must limit their diet for the first six to nine months as the dental implants heal. Patients often return for a series of examinations to track the healing progress throughout this time.
  • Your dentist will change your temporary crown or arch with a new permanent prosthesis once your mouth has healed and your new dental implants have stabilized.

How Beneficial Are Dental Implants?

Tooth implants have a lot of advantages, including the following:

  • Changes your speech and appearance.
  • Adds comfort
  • It improves your ability to chew the food
  • Keeps your jawbone and teeth healthy
  • Improves overall oral health
  • Implants are a good investment because they last a lifetime.

What To Avoid After Dental Implant Surgery?

  • You should refrain from using mouthwash for roughly a month following dental implant surgery. You should also avoid actively spitting or swishing in the days right after surgery since this can irritate the surgical site.
  • You must refrain from using water flossers and electric toothbrushes for a few days after implant surgery. This is due to the necessity of gently brushing for the first few days to prevent the surgery site from becoming damaged. A manual toothbrush is more straightforward to control than an electronic toothbrush in terms of pressure and speed.
  • Your dentist will put you on a limited soft foods diet to ensure your dental implant heals properly.
  • Smokers are advised to abstain from smoking for the first two months following surgery because nicotine constricts blood vessels and increases the risk of implant failure. Additionally, you should refrain from alcohol for at least 72 hours following surgery because it decreases osseointegration and blood vessel creation. In the first three weeks following surgery, caffeine should also be avoided because it is known to promote bleeding and delay recovery.
